Personal Information
I was born in Galveston Texas a very long time ago to Staff Sargent and and his wife. I spent my formative years as an energetic USAF dependent getting into as much trouble as possible. We were stationed all over the Southeastern US, spending most of our time at Seymour Johnson AFB in Goldsboro NC. I played every sport that was available to me as a child, turning out as an average american athlete. When my father retired from the Air Force we settled in in the coastal area of North Carolina. My parents remained in the area and this is where I called home. I went to college and moved around a bit and after my wanderings returned to the area and went to work for the government
I am taking classes here at Carteret Community College, originally to enhance my employment opportunities. Lately, however, I have begun to see the value in a associates degree in the computer related fields. I also like the class sizes and the people, faculty and students.
I currently reside in on a barrier island and I am totally integrated into the beach life, but you can have the summer traffic.
Educational Background
Pre High School
While I was growing up I was totally educated in Catholic schools primarily staffed by nuns of the various orders. I can attest to their thoroughness in educating me, as I am a whiz on Jeopardy. It wasn't until I reached high school that I did not finish the required textbook in the academic year.
High School
When we moved to eastern NC my parents attempted to enroll me into a Catholic school. It, however, closed and I was thrust into the student mix at a public high school, traumatic to say the least. I discovered that the nuns had overly prepared me for the future, I had covered most of my sophmore and junior years while a freshman. I bidded my time taking courses that interested me and graduating in the middle of my class. This was a bad thing as the Viet Nam war was in it's final stages.
The Best Time of My Life, Really, But They Called It College
I attended a Technical College enrolled as a freshman in the East Carolina University continuing education division. The next year I attended a Community College and graduated with an AA in Liberal Arts.  I then moved on to East Carolina University to complete a BA. While completing my major I minored in Anthropology. I completed the undergraduate degrees and with no firm plan in hand about the future, I entered the graduate program in the department. It was here that I found a true calling, teaching, I was a graduate teaching assistant for 2 quarters and 3 semesters. I loved it, I was challenged, motivated and forced to work my tail off to keep ahead in my own classes and the ones that I was teaching. Unfortunately I left to complete my thesis and never returned to finish my degree.

Leisure Interests
- Reading. I enjoy reading several types of books, Fantasy, History, Science Fiction. Favorite authors are Tom Clancy, Raymond Fiest and Issac Asimov.
- Playing, Coaching and Administering Rugby Teams/Unions. Described in more detail below are the aspects of my Rugby career, from college to the present.
- Golf. I play the sport of golf in order to relax. However I have become very competitive and really work on the game in order to be better. Thus some of the fun has gone out of it , but I still enjoy the occasional walk in the woods.
Rugby Times
While at ECU I began to participate in the sport of Rugby and it would come to dominate my adult life. Rugby has allowed an average athlete, like myself, to participate in it to the fullest extent possible. I have travelled to England, Scotland, Wales, Argentina, Uruguay, Japan, Canada, Hong Kong and almost all of the United States. The experiences were wondorous and sometimes a little overwhelming. All the trials, tribulations general hemoriodic pains were all worth it each time I got off a plane in a foriegn country or different US city. Travelling with a US representative team I found out how professional and world class athletes live. The ordinary individual would never receive treatment like we did, it was special and very reverential, I now understand why the upper echelon athlete doesn't want to retire.
I have also coached the sport at all but the national level. It is a rewarding experience to teach someone the skills of a sport that you love. Coaching the new recruits to the sport is the most challenging, frustrating yet rewarding aspect of the profession. Seeing the light bulb come on when the skill or manuever is mastered, brings back the memories of my similar experiences as a player. That's what makes the teaching fun and keeps me coming back every practice night.
Here are some of the types of pictures that I would be in if I was still actively playing the game. This picture is from a Lineout which is how the game is restarted when the ball goes out of bounds.
Here is a great shot of a bonecrushing/breaking tackle in an International match pitting Rugby World Cup finalists New Zealand versus Australia in an earlier match this year. These guys are professional athletes and are paid to play the game whereas here in the US we are still almost all totally amateur.
